OSKALOOSA — Henry Arie Bennink, son of John H. and Carrie Bogaards Bennink, was born June 26,1916, at the family home near Taintor. He passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at the Oskaloosa Care Center at the age of 93.
Henry attended the Peoria Christian School where he graduated from the eighth grade.
On Jan. 30, 1941, Henry was united in marriage with Bernice Marie Van Dusseldorp at the home of her parents in Olivet. To this union three daughters were born, Joyce, Donna and Sheila. Henry and Bernice enjoyed living on their farm raising their family.
Henry was a member of the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.
Henry is survived by his wife; his three daughters, Joyce (Wayne) Sopher of Oskaloosa, Donna (Robert) Zugg of New Sharon, and Sheila (Joe Whitfield) of Washington, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jason and Pam Brown, Steve and Melanie Sopher, Marla and Scott Williams, Michael Whitfield and Cheri and Duane Helmick; seven great-grandchildren, Austin Williams, Cody Williams, Kristin and Tim Keegel, Mallory Sopher, Marissa Sopher and Shea Sopher; and step-granddaughter, Shannon Helmick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Carrie Bennink; his parents-in-law, William and Rachel Van Dusseldorp; five sisters, Gertrude Bennink, Christina Septer, Gertrude Hoffman, Irene Olsthoorn and Agnes Bennink; and his only brother, Raymond Bennink.
Funeral services will be on Friday, Aug. 28, at the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. Burial will take place at the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
The Pella Garden Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
