SULLY — Robert G. Dunsbergen, 81, of Sully passed away Friday evening, Aug. 14, 2009, at his residence.
Bob is survived by his five children, Marvin Dunsbergen of Kellogg, Beryl Dunsbergen, Susan Beyer, Dennis Dunsbergen and Bruce Dunsbergen, all of Sully.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Sully. Visitation will begin this morning, Aug. 17, at the First Reformed Church in Sully, with the family present today from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Gideon’s International.

Robert (Bob) Gerard Dunsbergen was born on December 11, 1927, in Jasper County, south of Kellogg, Iowa. He was the 5th of five children that were born to Barney and Alida (Carbo) Dunsbergen. He was baptized at the Killduff Reformed Church on July 7, 1929.
Bob attended the Spring Hill Country Grade School and completed his formal education after the eighth grade in May of 1942. Bob began farming with his father on the family farm south of Kellogg.
On February 11, 1947, he was united in marriage with Anna Mae Van Wyk at her parent’s home near Lynnville, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Marvin Laverne, Beryl Warren, Susan Louise, Dennis Brian, and Bruce Allen. Their first home was living with Bob’s Dad, Barney, then they moved to the Young farm south of Kellogg. In 1960 they purchased the Vander Kamp farm south of Sully, Iowa living there until 1982. Bob loved farming and especially raising cows and calves.
Those left to cherish his memory are his five children and their families: Marvin and Gwen Dunsbergen of Kellogg; Beryl and Velda Dunsbergen of Sully; Susan Beyer of Sully; Dennis and Lisa Dunsbergen of Sully; Bruce and Lynnette Dunsbergen of Sully. Of his original family Bob leaves his beloved sister, Wilma (Bernard) De Zwarte of Newton, Iowa. Of his wife Anna Mae’s family he leaves her siblings and their spouses: (Guysbert) Esther Van Wyk of Lynnville, Gertrude and Ray Van Wyk of Pella, Iowa, Ralph J. (Jane Ann) and Ruby Van Wyk of Sully, Wilmer and Dorothy Van Wyk of Monroe, Iowa, (Forrest) LaVonne Van Wyk of Pella and Vernon and Carolyn Van Wyk of Sully.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Anna Mae; his parents, Barney and Alida Dunsbergen; an infant, brother, Bennie; a sister, Nellie and her husband Everett Jansen; his brother, Bennie and his wife, Margaret Dunsbergen; and his brother-in-law, Bernard De Zwarte; his parents-in-law, Will G. and Johanna (De Jong) Van Wyk; brothers- in-law: Guysbert and Forrest Van Wyk, and sister-in-law, Jane Ann Van Wyk.
Bob was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church in Sully where he made profession of his faith at an early age. He had been a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of the Sunday School and member of the Men’s Brotherhood He was a member of Gideon’s International, serving as a past treasurer. He was active in the community, a member of the Sully Cemetery Board, Sully Lion’s Club serving as past president and 9X8 Zone Chairman; was honored to serve as Mayor for 2 terms in the 1980’s when cable TV hit the market; and Co-Chair of the Central Iowa Blood Drive for over 25 years. Bob loved attending tractor rides and threshing reunions. Bob is especially remembered attending any event that was held at school that his children and grandchildren were involved in. Bob will be fondly remembered as a prayer partner and his family will ever be indebted for his commitment to marriage. His greatest desire was to see all his children and grandchildren in heaven with him someday.
