COLFAX — Karlyne A. Anspach, 93, of Colfax, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at her home in Colfax under the care of Hospice of Jasper County.
Per Karlyne’s request, she has been buried at Ida Grove Cemetery in Ida Grove.
Memorial services for Ms. Anspach will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colfax Historical Society and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Dr. Royal G. and Alice (Sykes) Anspach, Karlyne was born in 1915 in Colfax.
She was a graduate of Colfax High School, where she was the valedictorian of her class. After high school, Karlyne went on to receive many more degrees. She received a bachelor’s from Iowa State University, an master’s from Columbia, and a doctorate from the University of Chicago. She even studied oversees in Paris, France and Oxford University.
Karlyne spent four years working for fashion designer Nelly Don in Kansas City where she designed dresses. Karlyne then became a professor of fashion design at the University of Illinois for more than 40 years; retiring in 1986. She then returned to Colfax, where she was very instrumental in many projects around the community including: providing street lights for the downtown area, putting up a stage at the Women’s Club Park, paying for concerts to be held at the park, and giving time and money to develop the Colfax Historical Museum site. Karlyne was an avid gardener and a world traveler. She was a member of PEO for more than 75 years, the Colfax Historical Society and the Colfax United Methodist Church.
Those left to honor her memory are her niece, Ann K. Schimelpfenig; nephews, Glenn A. Anspach, Royal B. Anspach and David M. Anspach; and nine great-nieces and nephews.
Karlyne was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Royal S. Anspach, MD and Harold M. Anspach, MD.
