C. W. Hasselbrink Dies in Hospital, Rites Saturday
Carl W. Hasselbrink, 77, of 813 N. Fourth Ave. W., a long-time resident of Jasper County, died Thursday in Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Johnston Chapel.
The Rev. Raymond Barnett, minister of First Christian Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Verda; a son, George of Salida, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Amos (Marjorie) Blackledge of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, William and Hugo, both of Grinnell; Albert of Newton, and Louis of Kellogg, and three sisters, Mrs. G. A. Ebert and Mrs. Elsie Reed, both of Kellogg, and Mrs. Elmer Kooistra of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother, two half-brothers and an adopted daughter.
Mr. Hasselbrink had been a farmer and an employee of the Parson Company, retiring 10 years ago.
The son of Christopher and Emilie Schultz Hasselbrink, he was born Oct. 12, 1890, in Kellogg and was educated in Marshall County schools.
Mr. Hasselbrink, who resided in Marshall County for eight years, spent the remainder of his life in the Kellogg and Newton areas.
He was married to Verda I. Swigert July 4, 1911, in Newton
