Jacob Brand, son of Jacob and Jane Ver Heul Brand, was born July 25, 1878, in Marion County, Iowa. After a brief illness, he departed this life on April 6, 1952, at the age of 73 years, 8 months, and 12 days.
He received his education at the School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
On January 24, 1925 he was united in marriage to Florence Sessler of Omaha, Nebraska. To this union were born two children, Edwin and Dorothy, both of Grinnell.
He lived the greater part of his life in the Killduff, Sully, and Lynnville communities. In 1946, he moved his family to Grinnell, where he was living at the time of his death.
At the age of 55, he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior. During his late illness, he expressed his continued faith in the Lord and assurance of salvation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and two sisters.
Survivors are his wife and two children Edwin Brand and Dorothy Pierce, and three sisters, Mary Brand of Pella, Mrs. John Kooistra of Newton, Mrs. Catherine Kooistra of Sully, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral Services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ath the First Reformed Church in Sully. Mr. Thomas McMillen and Rev. C. Stoppels in charge. Burial was in the Sully cemetery.
