Mrs. Florence Brand, 79, of Grinnell died Sunday evening, Dec. 15, at Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of Samuel and Alice Hammond Sesler, she was born Dec. 13, 1895, at Battle Creek, Neb. She received her educatin in the Omaha School for the Deaf, and following her graduation she worked in Omaha. On Jan. 24, 1925, she was married to Jacob Brand. The couple had two children, Edwin and Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Pierce, both of Grinnell.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Brand farmed in the Killduff, Sully and Lynville communities until 1946 when they moved to Grinnell. Since the death of her husband on April 6, 1952, Mrs. Brand had made her home with her daughter.

Survivors include her two children; her grandchildren, Marcia, Sheri, Steven, Rodney, Jon, Curtis and Jody Pierce, and a sister, Mrs. Lulu Haaland of Buffalo, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband and one sister.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brand were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hugh Shiveley officiating. Organist was Sue Martindale, and serving on the flower committee were Mrs. Joe Brown and Mrs. Jerry Allen. Pallbeareres were Bernard Fleener, Guy Slaven, Gene Slaven, Jacob C. Brand, Virgil Kooistra, Raymond Brand and Joe Brown.

Burial was at the Sully Cemetery.
