Harry L. Stevenson Died Suddenly Thurs.
Funeral Services Held at Presbyterian Church Sunday Afternoon
The death of Harry Lewis Stevenson, who passed away Thursday, came as a severe shock to his family and friends here. His illness of heart trouble and complications was of short duration and his death came at 3:30 at the hospital in Newton. He was twenty-seven years of age and with his family had lived in Newton for some time, although a former Colfax boy.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Stevenson and was born on April 7, 1902. When seven months of age he accompanied his parents to Bandon, Ore., where they remained until he was six years of age, returning then to Colfax where he spent the rest of his life on a farm four miles northeast of Colfax.
He attended the Liberty school finishing the eighth grade and later taking a two-year course in the Colfax high school.
On September 1, 1928, he was married to Ella M. Myers at Princeton, Mo. One daughter, Avis June, was born to this union.
He leaves surviving him, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Stevenson; his widow, one daughter, Avis June, age six months; one stepson, Merlwyn James Myers, age four years; a grandmother, Mrs. Mary Hurst of Colfax who is eighty years of age; two brothers, Elmer E. of Moline, Ill., Lloyd T. of Colfax and three sisters, Ellen I. Goss, Mary E. Breckenridge and Lois L. Stevenson, all of Colfax.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church in Colfax, with Rev. Wylie of Newton officiating and Rev. McDonald of Colfax assisting. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet from the United Presbyterian church of Newton. Six of his former schoolmates acted as the pallbearers. Interment was at Oak Hill cemetery.
