J. M. Rorabaugh, Pioneer of County Dies
Death Came Sunday Evening at his Home here After Long Illness
J. M. Rorabaugh passed away Sunday evening at his home on Cherry Street following a long illness of almost a year’s duration. Although eighty-one years of age, it has not been until the last year he had given up regular attendance to all church services, his calls on his many friends and his willing aid about the home.
If it has been said once, it has been said hundreds of times concerning the deceased, that if ever there was a good man and a Christian, this man was John Rorabaugh. He truly lived the life of a Christian and many besides those of his own family will miss his cheery calls and his many acts of kindness.
The deceased was born in Fairfield County, Penn., on May 24th, 1848 and came to this county in 1860 where he went on a farm near Colfax. All but nineteen years of his life he enjoyed in the country.
Besides his wife, to whom he was united in marriage on December 3, 1871 at Prairie City, three children survive, namely, Mrs. Mary E. Baker of Newton, Mrs. Wesley McCracken and Fred Rorabaugh of near Colfax. One child preceded him in death.
Two sisters, Mrs. Addie R. Pawson of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Emma Campbell of Botany, Iowa, and four brothers, Garret Rorabaugh of California; Fred of Nebraska, Aaron of Minnesota and Sherman Rorabaugh of Arizona, survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at two o’clock from the Christian church with Rev. McDonald of the Methodist church officiating. The music will be furnished by singers from the Methodist church and interment will be had at the Rorabaugh cemetery.
