Roy J. “Fritz” Henning, 70, of 900 E. 13th St. N., died of heart failure, Sunday, May 21, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Steven Pannkuk, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association will be accepted.
The son of Walter A. Henning and Mamie Lucille Schermerhorn, he was born May 10, 1930, in Newton. He attended Newton schools and on June 12, 1954, he married LaVona Claudine Appeldoorn, in Newton.
A lifelong resident of Newton, Mr. Henning was employed by the Maytag Company in Newton as an inspector for 30 years before retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton, a member and past commander of UAW Local No. 997, Newton VFW No. 1655 and a veteran of the United States Army, Serving during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Luella Banks of Rock Island, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Esther Henning of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and two brothers.
