Carl Henning Sr. Dies Wednesday; Rites Saturday
KELLOGG – Carl J. Henning Sr., 70, of Kellogg, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Wednesday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Newton.
The Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of the Hickory Grove Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Gardens.Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Eva E., three sons, Carl L. Jr. of Killduff, Gerald L. of Grinnell and Virgil G. of Rock Springs, Wyo., four daughters, Edith Luckey of Rock Springs, Wyo., Judy Norton of Kellogg and Marcia White and Ruth Henning, both of Grinnell; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Also surviving are two brothers, Walter of Kellogg and Theodore of Colfax; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Reynolds of Moline, Ill., and Mrs. Elsie Hasselbrink of Grinnell.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, August, Fred, Edward and Albert; a sister, Lena Hannagan; and a granddaughter.
Mr. Henning, a retired farmer, had been employed by the Jasper County Highway Commission for 28 years until his retirement.
The son of August and Fredericka Saak Henning, he was born July 21, 1912 at Newton and was educated in Newton schools.
He was married to Eva E. Reynolds March 31, 1934 in Newton.
