Norcross, Larry – 1962-2009

Larry Dean Norcross, the son of Russel G. and Gail Elizabeth Palm Norcross, was born Jan. 12, 1962, in Clarinda. Larry moved with his parents to Newton in 1971 and attended Berg Elementary School. He attended Newton Senior High School and graduated with the class of 1980. He attended DMACC and transferred to Central College in Pella, where he graduated in 1991, with a degree in business administration.
Larry was united in marriage to Tammy Hutson on Sept. 5, 1987, in Long Grove. They lived in Winona and Minneapolis, Minn., and Newton. Larry was a sales executive in the promotional products industry for 25 years. He worked for Spartan Promotional Group, Maxim Advertising, Newton Manufacturing, Vernon Company and Tombstone Pizza sales and delivery — he loved pizza!
Larry was very involved with his family and actively supported his children’s activities. He enjoyed sports, rode RAGBRAI several years, camping, cooking and was a YMCA youth coach. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the YMCA.
Larry died from brain tumors caused by Von Hippel-Lindau Disease on Saturday, June 27, 2009, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gail Norcross on March 15, 2009.
Those left to honor the memory of Larry include his wife, Tammy Norcross of Newton; sons, Lucas Dean Norcross and Logan Russel Norcross; daughters, Leah Lorraine Norcross and Lauren Angela Norcross; father, Russel G. Norcross of Newton; sister and brother-in-law, Bette and David Wappner of Erlanger, Ky.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Leatha Hutson of Donahue; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tim Hutson of Peoria, Ill., Teri and Jeff Hamerlinck of Davenport, Thomas and Jeanne Hutson of Swisher, Tony and Donna Hutson of St. Louis, Mo., Ted and Jennifer Hutson of Chicago, Ill., Traci and Wade Verbrugge of Eldridge and Tina and Jim Lindle of Eldridge; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends may call at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday and at the church after 3 p.m. where the family will be present from 3 to 8 p.m. A public prayer service will be at 8 p.m.
Memorials may be designated to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hospice of Jasper County or to establish an educational fund for Larry’s children.
