COLFAX — Arthur R. Slatkoski, 88, of Colfax died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Heritage Manor in Newton.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 1, at 10 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax with burial following at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation for Art will be on Tuesday, June 30, at the Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Colfax Emergency Unit or Iowa Hospice. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of John and Sabina (Sabota) Slatkoski, Art was born on March 4, 1921, at Severs Mining Camp, near Colfax. Art was a graduate of Colfax High School. Art was a dedicated farmer. He rarely took vacations because he wanted to stay and tend the farm. Besides being a crop farmer, Art also raised dairy cows, beef cows, chickens and early on he had hogs. The Slatkoski Family Farm was honored as a Century Farm for their 100 years of dedicated farming. Art was also a member of the Iowa Barn Foundation where his barn served as a stop for the Iowa Barn Tour.
Those left to honor his memory are his longtime companion, Dorothy Pigg of Colfax and his son, Robert Slatkoski and his wife Catherine (Katie) of Rapid City, S.D.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank, John and Joe (Duke) Slatkoski; and sisters, Ottilia and Ann Slatkoski and Margaret Gannon.
