Jerry W. Gram, 61, of Newton went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at Wallace Family Funeral Home. Jerry’s family will greet friends following the service until 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be left in Jerry’s name at the funeral home.
The son of Raymond and Gertrude (Perkins) Gram, Jerry was born on Oct. 19, 1947, in Cincinatti, Ohio. Jerry grew up in Hampton and lived there until 1987 when he moved to Newton. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Darlene Wernett on Jan. 5, 1968, in Mason City.
A 1966 graduate of Hampton High School in Hampton, he worked as a meat cutter for many years. Most recently he worked at Jeld Wen until his retirement. Jerry served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1968. He was a man of many hobbies and interests: hunting, fishing (especially trout), camping, bowling, playing cards (especially Texas Hold Em), chess, dancing, boating, motorcycle riding, antique car restoration, flying ultralite planes and NASCAR racing. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and planning and taking family vacations every summer across the country.
Survivors include his wife, Cherri Gram of Newton; one daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Brunsen of Urbandale; one son, Troy (Melissa) Gram of Newton; grandchildren, Skiler Hovenga, Trinity Gram, Alex and Hannah Brunsen; father and step-mother, Raymond (Nadine) Gram of Hampton; and one brother, Larry (Evonne) Gram of Forest City.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude; twin brothers, Roger and Ronnie Gram in infancy; father-in-law, Charles A. Wernett; two brothers-in-law, David and Frank Wernett; and one sister-in-law, Sharon Richardson.
