GRINNELL — Ruby E. Richardson, 87, of Grinnell, formerly of rural Jasper County, died on Friday, June 19, 2009, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and the family will be present at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Ruby was born on December 16, 1921, on the family farm near Carson, Iowa to Walter and Rose Cleveland Needham. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. On March 5, 1942, she was married to Edwin Richardson at Plattsmith, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Hancock, Iowa prior to moving to rural Jasper County in 1946. She was a homemaker and worked at Swift and Company in early years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and her hobbies included dancing, fishing and viewing bull riding contests. She also enjoyed baking and doing volunteer work at Veterans facilities. Survivors include her two sons, Walt (Pat) Richardson of Grinnell and Bob and (Kathy) Richardson of Newton; four grandchildren, Jim (Kristy) Richardson, Curt (Wendy) Richardson, Leigh (Wade) Wiand and Jackie (Ryan) Thomasson; and six great grandchildren, Cassandra, Zack, Colton, Colby, Giovanni and Kayleigh. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Carroll, Raymond and Ward Needham; and two sisters, Edna Majors and Ruth Swinn.
