Doris J. Fosenburg, 73, of Newton died on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
In honoring Doris’ request, she has been cremated and no services will be held. To celebrate her life the family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at the UAW Union Hall, 1813 First St. N. in Newton.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be left in Doris’ name. Memorials may be sent to Jeff Fosenburg, 8390 W. 24th St. S., Monroe, IA 50170, or may be left at the union hall the night of the visitation or left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton, which is in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of Charles and Ada (Whetstine) Shepherd, Doris was born on March 13, 1936, in Iowa City. Doris grew up in Lynnville and had lived the rest of her life in Newton.
Doris was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. She was a production worker for 25 years at the Maytag Company. Doris attended Metz Church, and was a member of the UAW Local 997 Retiree’s Union.
Her passions included her children, grandchildren, friends, the Democratic Party, voter registration and the UAW Local 997 Union.
Survivors include her son, Jeff (Sharyl) Fosenburg of Monroe; two grandchildren, Staci and Josh Fosenburg; a sister, Norinne Hardenbrook of Newton; and a brother, Robert Shepherd of Bakersfield, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack; sister, Mary Lou Wickliff; and brother, Charles Shepherd.
