James L. Putz, 60, of Newton died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 1115 S. Eighth Ave. E. in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Memorials to the Lymphoma Research Foundation may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the day of the service.
Jim had worked as a laborer at Plant 1 of the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 1997.
He is survived by his wife, Sonya of Newton; two sons, Earl (Danielle) Putz of Cedar Falls and Lewis Putz of Newton; two grandsons, Noah and Ethan Putz; a granddaughter on the way; three sisters, Rose (Bob) Hansen of Reasnor, Mae Chambers of Davenport and Carol (Dave) Wallace of Lacona; three brothers, Bernard (Darlene) Putz of Lacona, Larry (Carolyn) Putz of Newton and Marvin (Sue) Putz of Monroe; his mother-in-law, Dorcas Davis of Chariton; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Putz of Liberty Center, Betty Putz of Des Moines and Shirley (Jim) Morr of Chariton; brother-in-law, Terry (Kate) Davis of Strathmore, Calif.; four godchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Margaret (Dittmer) Putz; his step-mother, Theresa; and four brothers, Keith, Martin, Jerome and Delbert Putz.
