KILLDUFF — R. Carroll Rohrdanz, 91, of Killduff died on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at his home in Killduff.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, at the St. Andrews Lutheran Church in rural Sully with the Rev. Nancy Pick officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at St. Andrews Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Gideon Memorial Bibles or to the donor’s choice. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.
The son of Ed and A. Pearl (Schnug) Rohrdanz, he was born on April 14, 1918, in rural Sully. Carroll had been a lifelong resident of Buena Vista Township in Jasper County. He was united in marriage to Olga June Compton in 1941 in rural Killduff.
A 1935 graduate of Newton Senior High School, Carroll was a farmer and raised and showed purebred Angus cattle. Carroll had been the leader of the Killduff 4-H Hotshots for 20 years, a member of the Jasper County Fair Board for 30 years (served a term as president), director of Jasper Mutual Insurance (Hawkeye Mutual) for 28 years, and past president of Jasper County Angus Association, Tall Corn Angus Association, Jasper County Pork Producers, and the Killduff School Board. He has served on the boards of Jasper County Trustees, Jasper County Condemnation Board and 12 years on the Mendier Foundation Board (mental health). Carroll had been an active member of the St. Andrews Lutheran Church and had served in several capacities. He taught a Sunday schoool class for over 50 years.
Survivors include a son, Terry Rohrdanz of rural Killduff; a grandson, Trent Rohrdanz of rural Killduff; a great-grandson, Rory Rohrdanz of rural Killduff; and his step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Olga in 1985; two brothers, Marvin and Dwight Rohrdanz; and sister, Virginia in infancy.
