Funeral Service Monday for Herman B. Saak, 77
Herman B. Saak, 77, life-long resident of the Baxter community and a prominent businessman until his retirement in 1947, died Friday afternoon at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Gary Pyle, near Baxter. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Florence) Petermeier of Baxter; two brothers, Louis Saak and Henry Saak, both of Baxter; a sister Mrs. Louis (Anna) Tinnermeier of Baxter; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Born July 30, 1876 east of Baxter, Mr. Saak was the son of Herman and Elnora Saak. He was raised in the Baxter community and attended rural schools. He married Sophia Kanne March 5, 1902, east of Baxter.
After farming near Baxter until 1920, he moved to Baxter where he operated the Saak-Tinnermeier Hardware store for nine years, from 1922 until 1931. He entered the insurance business in 1931, retiring in 1947.
Service Monday
Funeral service was conducted Monday afternoon at the Baxter Community Congregational Christian church of which Mr. Saak was a member. The Rev. Harry E. Boughey, assisted by the Rev. Lowell E. Ferguson, conducted the service. Charles Korte was soloist and Mrs. Donnell Deutsch, organist. Floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. Otis Dodd and Mrs. Hale Nickell.
Burial was in Restland cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Kreager, George Geise, Ernst Kienle, Louis DeJong, R. Frank Clark and Herman Oartwieg. The Boyd-Nickell funeral directors were in charge of arrangements.
