Wagaman, Laurel - 1926-2009

PRAIRIE CITY — Laurel Mae Wagaman, 83, of Prairie City died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Mitchell Village Care Center of Mitchellville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wagaman will be on Friday, June 12, at the Prairie City Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon following at the church. A private family burial will be at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation, with family present to greet friends, will be today, Thursday, June 11, at Coburn Funeral Home of Prairie City from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Prairie City Christian Church or Mercy Hospice and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Isaac Jasper and Della Minerva (Jenks) Yowell, Laurel Mae was born on March 10, 1926, in Prairie City. She was a graduate of Prairie City High School. On June 28, 1946, Laurel was united in marriage with David Wayne Wagaman.
Laurel was a co-owner of the Prairie City Feed Mill. She could be described as a warm and caring person. Her door was always open and she especially enjoyed the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always made sure the family took time for vacations. Laurel enjoyed cooking and made wonderful fried chicken and apple dumplings. She also played cards, cribbage, square danced and loved her dogs. The family will always have fond memories of their traditional Easter egg hunts, and time spent at Lake Ponderosa. Laurel was a member of the Prairie City Christian Church and a past president of the Prairie City Business Association.
Those left to honor her memory are her children, Robert (Sandy) Wagaman of Prairie City, Lee (Larry) Borchardt of Prairie City, Max (Peggy) Wagaman of Pella and Jerry (Velvet) Wagaman of Prairie City; daughter-in-law, Ginger Wagaman of Prairie City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
Laurel was preceded in death by her husband, David Wayne Wagaman; son, Jim Wagaman; and five siblings.
