Julie Knudsen, 51, of Newton died on Monday, June 8, 2009, at Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials in Julie’s name or to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service.
The daughter of Bill and Roberta (Waits) Landgrebe, Julie was born on June 26, 1957, in Newton where she was a lifelong resident. On Jan. 25, 2003, Julie was united in marriage to Jim Knudsen in Newton.
She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1975 and a graduate of Salvador’s Beauty College in Des Moines in 1977. Before her children were born she was a hair stylist. She then was a homemaker and also worked part-time for a florist and for the schools. Julie did volunteer work for both the hospital and the library. She was also very active in the PTA.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Knudsen of Newton; two sons, Benjamin Sandholm (and his fianceé, Janice Giraldo) of Iowa City and Joshua Sandholm of Iowa City; one daughter, Molly (Drew) Gosselink of Des Moines; five step children, Rebekah (Sean) Dalbey of Polson, Mont., Justin (Shelia) Knudsen of Hot Springs, Mont., Talia Knudsen of Helena, Mont., Nicholas Knudsen of Durant, Okla., and Mallory Knudsen of Missoula, Mont.; one grandchild, Dane Gosselink; three step grandchildren, Asher and Ava Dalbey and Naoma Knudsen; her parents, Bill and Roberta Landgrebe of Newton; one brother, Randall Landgrebe of Littleton, Colo.; one sister, Susan Christensen of Urbandale; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Julie was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and an uncle, Richard Landgrebe.
