Eldon Frank Audas, 79, of Newton died on June 7, 2009, at the Monarch Room at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. David Rex officiating. Eulogist will be Eldon “Bud” Audas. Pallbearers will be Tony Lee Audas, Walter Ponce, Dave and Tim Cottrell, David Shinn and Dave Burch. Honorary bearers will be Byron Sharp, Walter Ponce, II, Don L. Audas Jr., and Tony Audus Jr. Burial will be in the Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn.
Visitation with the family present will be two hours prior to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Eldon F. Audas Memorial Fund.
Eldon was born June 27, 1929, in Brooklyn, to Frank and Irene Dayton Audas. He was raised in Brooklyn and was a 1947 graduate of Brooklyn High School.
Eldon was a master electrician who started his career at ISU in Grinnell and ended his career at Nabisco in Buena Park, Calif., where he retired in 1986 and moved back to Newton.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bernice Audas of Newton; four daughters, Doris Ann Eames of Gilman, Norma Lynch of Melborne, Mary Retter of Gilman and Cheryl Hughes of Newton; three sons, Eldon R. Audas of Omaha, Neb., Steven Bailey of Grinnell and Eldon P. Audas of Des Moines; one brother, Max Audas of Kentucky; one sister, Dona Eissher of Nevada; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eleanor in infancy and Eunice Saylor; and one brother, Don L. Audas Sr.
