Van Gorp, Mildred – 1920-2009

MISSION. S.D. — Visitation for Mildred Van Gorp, 89 of Mission, S.D., will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Monday, June 1, at Newton Baptist Temple in Newton. Funeral services will be at the church on Tuesday, June 2, at 1 p.m. with burial following at Newton Union Cemetery. Holmes Funeral Home of Valentine, Neb., has been entrusted with the arrangements. Services in Newton will be conducted by Wallace Family Funeral Home.
Viola Mildred Van Gorp, daughter of Novie Leo and Della Fay Broyles was born near Ryegate, Mont., on March 25, 1920. She passed from this life and was received into glory on May 27, 2009.
Mildred’s family moved to Missouri where she grew up. She was married to Earl Edwin Bausell on Feb. 26, 1940, and was widowed Oct. 11, 1942. Mildred moved to Iowa where she worked as a waitress until she was hired by the Maytag Company, where she worked as an inspector until her retirement in 1982 at age 62. She married Fred Andrew Van Gorp in Newton on Dec. 17, 1955, and was widowed June 23, 1981. Mildred trusted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized into Newton Baptist Temple in Newton.
After her retirement in 1982, she moved to South Dakota, where she helped minister to the Indians on the Rosebud Reservation. She was a Sunday school teacher and a devoted supporter of the Lord’s work. Mildred was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She leaves behind two sons, Ed L. Bausell of Mission, S.D., and Gary Wayne Van Gorp of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Michelle Rodriguez and John Bausell; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Wilma Ralston and Geneva Williams; and three brothers, Dennis, Gene and Kenneth Broyles.
