BAXTER — C. Norman “Red” Patterson, 98, of Baxter died on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Baxter Care Center in Baxter.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today, Monday, June 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with Chaplain Gary Boyle of Iowa Hospice and the Rev. Robert Shaw of Believer in Faith Church. Burial was at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be left in Norman’s name at the funeral home.
Born on April 21, 1911, in Rhodes, he was the son of Clyde and Vilda (Tribby) Patterson and was a lifelong Baxter area resident, except for living in Newton for 20 years. He was united in marriage to Bessie Pershall in 1935.
Norman worked at Gooch’s Feed Mill in Baxter. He enjoyed music, playing the violin (several which he made himself), fishing, bowling and camping. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Paula (Wayne) Daniels of Killduff, Kevin (Marcie) Patterson, Dean Patterson of Newton and Pat Patterson of Mt. Pleasant; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Livingston of Altoona; and several of Bessie’s siblings.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie in 1996; and son, Darold in 1987.
