BAXTER — Edward C. “Ed” Flora, 60, of Baxter died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The Rev. Rollin Watters, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter will officiate.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family requests memorials to the Baxter Fire and Rescue or to the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Iowa Chapter. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Wilbur and Eleanor (Benson) Flora, Ed was born on June 17, 1948, in Marshalltown. He was a lifelong resident of Baxter and a graduate of Baxter High School.
Ed was a farmer and a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter and of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. Ed served his country in the U. S. Army from 1969 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. He loved music, dancing, snow skiing, going fishing in Canada, hunting and being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Kris (Tonia) Flora of Baxter; his daughter, Rachel Flora of New York, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Devin and Danika Flora; and two sisters, Julie (Rob) Hill of Coral Springs, Fla., and Suzanne (Dick) Rubin of Boise, Idaho.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
