COLFAX — Leslie W. Mixson, 80, of Colfax died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Skiff Medical Center’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services for Mr. Mixson will be on Saturday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home of Colfax with burial following at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to funeral services from 1 to 2 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The son of Walter Belmont and Mittie May (Willeford) Mixson, Leslie was born on June 9, 1928 in Coleman, Texas. Les proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. Les was united in marriage with June Wedde. Les and June were residents of Milwaukee, Wisconsin for 50 years until moving to Colfax in 1998. Les was a supervisor for 27 years for Dalum Equipment Company. He enjoyed gardening, walking to Casey’s every morning for the newspaper, camping, playing cards, and traveling.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife June Mixson of Colfax; son, Jeffrey Mixson of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters, Sherry Mitchell of Jacksonville, Florida and Lynn Lewis Reed and her husband Rich of Colfax. Those also left to honor his memory are his six grandchildren: Scott Walter of Milwaukee, WI; Kris Curtis of Albuquerque, NM; Melissa Mitchell of Jacksonville, FL; Shannon Lewis of Cincinnati, OH; Sean Lewis of Des Moines; and Ryan Reed of Colfax; and one great-grandson, Kelton Curtis. Les was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters: Beryle, Meryle, Robbie, and Peggy.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jasper County.
