Elizabeth Pierschbacher, 77, of Newton died on Monday, May 25, 2009, at her home in Newton.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 28, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, conducted by the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church in Newton.
Burial will be at 2 p.m., Thursday at the Chariton Cemetery in Chariton.
In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth’s family requests memorials be given to the Congregational United Church of Christ or to the Newton Library. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors include her brother, Hubert (Mary Lou) Pierschbacher of Chariton; five nieces and nephews, Lori, Brad, Clifton, Marla, John, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Clayton and Dwayne Pierschbacher.
Elizabeth was a teacher in the Newton Community School District from 1954-1995.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Connell A. and F. Estaline (Patterson) Pierschbacher; and 2 brothers, Clayton and Dwayne Pierschbacher.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Chariton High School in Chariton. She also graduated from the Iowa Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Elizabeth had also attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado..
She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton, the Red Hat Society; she was initiated into Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in 1966 and JCRSPA. Elizabeth loved to travel, she was an avid reader. Education was very important to her. She always stayed in very close contact with her nieces and nephews.
