KELLOGG — Mary O. Mathews, 85, of Kellogg died May 23, 2009, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, May 27, at Smith Funeral Home and where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the donor’s choice in Mary’s name.
Mary was born May 23, 1924, on the family farm near Mt. Zion, Wis., the daughter of John and Blanche (Gray) McDaniel. She was a 1942 graduate of Boscobel Wisconsin High School.
On Dec. 26, 1944, she was married to Floyd H. Mathews, in Boscobel, Wis. The couple lived in Madison and Muscoda, Wis., and later returned to Boscobel, prior to moving to the Grinnell area in 1963 where they farmed for several years. The couple later moved to Kellogg and she was employed at Maytag Company in Newton for 18 years, retiring in 1986. Mary was a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center in Newton and the Kellogg Historical Museum.
Survivors include two children, Dennis Mathews of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Pam (Tim) Koellner of O’Fallon, Mo.; three grandchildren, Trisha Lewis Quinn of O’Fallon, Mo., and Dennis and Chrystaunia Duquette, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three great-grandchildren, Connor and Delaney Quinn, and Matthew Duquette.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd, in 1992; and five brothers.
