Velma L. Moon Anderson, 102, of Newton died Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. The family will greet friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Milo IOOF Cemetery in Milo.
Memorials to Skiff Medical Center may be left at the funeral home.
Born on June 4, 1906, in Milo, she was the daughter of Handy and Ada F. Morgan. She grew up on a farm near Milo and had lived in Newton for several years. Velma was married to Floyd Moon and after his death, to Carl Anderson.
Velma worked at Montgomery Ward for several years and had also been a hostess at the Terrace Inn. She enjoyed her grandkids, crocheting and gardening.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Sue (Larry) Swedlund, James (Beth) Moon, both of Newton, David Moon of Polk City and Tim (Julie) Moon of Newton; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and granddaughter-in-law, Jill Fehrer.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Floyd Moon; second husband, Carl Anderson; and son and daughter-in-law, Floyd “Max” and Patricia Moon.
