COLFAX — Wanda Z. Bell, 69, of Colfax died Friday, April 24, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral mass will be on Wednesday, April 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax. Burial will take place at Greencastle Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 28, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A vigil service will begin Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund or the Colfax Emergency Unit. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Leorn L. and Marie Elizabeth (Purnell) Stier, Wanda was born on March 15, 1940, in Colorado. Wanda graduated from Mingo High School in 1958. On Jan. 31, 1960, she was united in marriage to John William “Bill” Bell at the parsonage at the Catholic Church.
Wanda was a cook and worked at several places in the area. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Those left to honor her memory are her husband of 49 years, Bill, and their children, Karen Sue (Kevin) McKee of Monona, William Alan “Billy” (Jennifer) Bell, Robert Arthur Bell and Barbara Ann (Dwight) Birkenholtz, all of Colfax. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Emily (Matt) McDonnell, Breia Bell and Mallory Bell; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Mason and Marisa; a brother, Arnold “Red” Stier; and two sisters, Rosalie (Harold) Bissell of Waukee and MaryAnn (Jack) Ward of Colfax.
Preceding Wanda in death were her parents and two brothers, Orville and Lyle.
