Burton Paul “Burt” Wainscott, 55, of Newton died on Friday, April 17, 2009, at Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton after a courageous battle with cancer.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2009, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton, with a memorial service following at 8 p.m. The memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Aaron Loree of the First Baptist Church in Newton. Burial will be held at a later date. Memorials in Burt’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Burt was born Aug. 3, 1953, in Red Bud, Ill. He was the first born of Treve LeMert and Lorene (Goaring) Wainscott. He moved with the family several times, having residence in Des Moines, before the family settled in Overland Park, Kan. During those years, he was very active with the Boy Scouts, competitive swimming, horsemanship and served as an acolyte in his church. Burt was a graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School in 1971. He studied agriculture for two years at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan.
Burt was a production worker for the Maytag Company over 22 years, working until the company closed in October of 2007. He developed many close friendships among the Maytag employee family. After Maytag closed he began studying telecommunications at Des Moines Area Community College. Burt was truly enjoying this college experience at this stage of his life and was proud to have made the dean’s list.
Burt loved life, family and friends and lived it to the fullest. His love of the outdoors and water took him to many beaches, banks and shorelines. Lake Red Rock, Lake Rathbun, Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock Lake, Florida, Alaska, Myrtle Beach and the Cancun area were several of his destinations. He was able to live his dream of relaxing on the water and loved introducing other people, especially children, to boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, cliff diving and all around “water fun.” Burt was a “people person,” and he usually had that twinkle in his eyes and was up to something.
As the “social director,” he always had something fun going on. He also had the knack of understanding construction and loved lending a helping hand for a remodel or other project, as this was another element he excelled in. Put on some music, probably jazz, and he was good to go.
Burt is survived and will be deeply missed by his parents, T. L. and Lorene Wainscott of Jenks, Okla.; sister and her husband, Betsy and Scott Skogman of Cambridge, Minn.; his favorite niece, Amber Fielder of Minnesota; his favorite nephew, Travis Fielder of the University of Wisconsin and the U. S. Army; special friend, George Shores of Knoxville, Iowa; special relatives, Steven Goaring and Lorene and Frank Sagola; numerous other cousins and relatives; and a huge world of friends.
“You fought the good fight, Burt. Now you rest in peace. We will miss you. We thank God that he gave you to us as our son, brother, Uncle B and friend. You will always be in our hearts.”
