Fullmer, Ruby Mae – 1916-2009

Ruby Mae Fullmer, the twin daughter of Everett and Gertrude Wallace Rhoades, was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Blair, Neb. She graduated from Blair High School with the class of 1934 and went on to graduate from St. Vincent School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa.

On Dec. 27, 1938, Ruby was united in marriage with Wayne J. Fullmer in Omaha, Neb., and moved to Newton.

During World War II, Ruby worked as a registered nurse at Skiff Hospital. In 1945, she accepted the position as school nurse for the Newton Community Schools. She retired in 1976. Ruby truly loved her family and loved the opportunity she had to help care for the children of Newton.

Ruby died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was 92 years old. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Wayne, on Jan. 7, 2001.

Those left to honor Ruby’s memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Nenita Fullmer of Newton; her granddaughters, Kristin, Laura and Alicia; her step grandchildren, Trista and Arturo; her nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her many friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
Memorials may be designated in Ruby’s name and left at the funeral home.
