KELLOGG — Maynard Deppe, 84, of Kellogg died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, with the Rev. Mike Johnson of the Kellogg Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery in rural Kellogg.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The son of William E. and Wadie Littrell Deppe, he was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Grinnell. On Jan. 11, 1945, he married Juanita Kinney in Grinnell.
Maynard was a lifelong resident of Rock Creek Township. He worked as a rural mail carrier for 39 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed bluegrass and country music, traveling and going on vacation, going to farm shows, visiting the state fair and antique tractor shows.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County, the Kellogg Fire Department or the Kellogg Historical Society may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife Juanita Deppe of Kellogg; three daughters, Helen (Dean) Lanser, Ruth (Steve) Bookout and Kathy (Bob) Richardson, all of Newton; one son, Kenneth Deppe of Newton; four grandchildren, Roxanne (Terry) Rader Roll, Tori (Tim) Sharp Rohde, Ashley (Ed) Crawford Martin and Travis Crawford; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Maxine Deppe of Kellogg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Loren Deppe; and a sister, Viola Paulson.
