LAUREL — Freida E. Rutter, 89, of Laurel died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at the Villa Del Sol Nursing Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services celebrating Freida’s life will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Laurel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Zoar Cemetery in rural Newton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Pursel Davis Funeral Home.

Freida E. Rutter was born on Jan. 30, 1920, in Osceola, Neb., to Albert J. and Clara (Roberts) Zang. Freida was raised and educated in Osceola, where she graduated with the class of 1937.
On March 26, 1939, she was united in marriage with Theodore “Ted” Rutter. In 1940, the young couple moved to Jasper County and began what would become 50 years of farming around Prairie City, Newton and Laurel areas.
Freida began working in 1966 at Security Savings Bank in Laurel, until transferring in 1970 to the main office in Marshalltown, where she worked as an executive secretary in the Commercial Loan department until her retirement in 1986.
Freida was a past member of the Jasper Co. Women’s Chorus, Laurel Federated Study Club, Laurel United Methodist Church, Laurel United Methodist Women, past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Onyx Chapter #350, and the Zoar Cemetery Association.
Those left to mourn her are her daughters, Mary Hulleman of Ames and Lynne Gummert (Randy Hager) of Laurel, and daughter-in-law Ruth Rutter of Newton; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Brent) Den Hartog, Michael (Jessie) Rutter, Chris (Teresa) Hulleman, Alan Hulleman, Shay Hager, Nathan Stalzer, Aaron Stalzer and James Gummert; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Tom (Helen) Rutter of Carson City, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Theodore Rutter, in 1989, and a son, James Rutter in 2004.
