Redding, Donald – 1935-2009

Donald Redding, a 1953 graduate of Newton High School passed away April 1, 2009.
1st Sgt. Redding served in the U.S. Army until his retirement. He served in Vietnam and was honored with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for valor under fire and saved his platoon from enemy fire even after being wounded himself.
He is survived by his wife Teri; three sons, David, Bruce and Terry Lee; two sisters, Mary (Ed) Szczutkowski of Newton and Betty Hoezee of Grand Rapids, MI.
He is preceded in death by his mother Arlene Townsend of Newton and Donald Redding of Grand Rapids, MI.
The funeral with full military honors took place Saturday, April 4, at 4 p.m. at Dyal Funeral Home in Sumervillle, S.C.

Mr. Redding was born January 25, 1935 in Newton, Iowa, son of the late Donald Bright Redding and Lolita Arlene Henderson Redding. He was a graduate of Newton High School, in Newton, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, coin collecting, card playing, gardening, auto repair and electronics. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a distribution clerk and was of the Lutheran faith.
