ROUND ROCK, Texas — Martha Awtry Failor Albrecht, 92, of Round Rock, Texas, was born Feb. 13, 1917, on a farm in Jasper County near Newton. She was the fourth of seven children born to Clara Klopping Awtry and Harry Daniel Awtry. She was raised and went through high school in Newton.
In 1935 she married Francis F. Failor, a well-known florist. They were married in the Congregational Church in Newton. They were in business for many years in Newton and northern Minnesota. Martha and her family loved the north woods and often vacationed in the border waters of Canada.
They had three daughters, Martha “Marty” Suerth and husband William “Pat” of Georgetown; Penny Ries and husband Clay of Sunland Park, N.M.; and Candi Waits of Las Cruces, N.M. Martha was active in the Methodist and Lutheran Churches, especially St. Andrew Lutheran Church at Canyon Lake, Texas. Other lifetime interests included painting, garden club, traveling, sororities, Camp Fire girls, PTA and bridge clubs. She started Welcome Neighbors in McAllen, Texas, to greet newcomers to the Valley.
Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis F. Failor, her parents and five siblings. She later married David J. Albrecht and was preceded in death by him also. In addition to her three daughters, she is survived by four grandchildren, Susan Crowe and husband, Brian of Georgetown, Texas; Michael Suerth and wife Kathy of Houston, Texas, Joe Ries and wife Ani of El Paso, Texas, and Ryan Waits of Alexandria, Va.; and five great-grandchildren, Micah and Caleb Crowe and Madeline, Jack and Melanie Suerth. She is also survived by Mr. Albrecht’s daughter, Marjorie Earle, and her family, his son, Tom Albrecht, and his family, all of San Antonio, and one sister, Reva Nelson of Newton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in Palm Valley Lutheran Church, 2500 E. Palm Valley Blvd., in Round Rock. Interment was in Palm Valley Cemetery. Honoring her memory as pallbearers were B.K. Crowe, Susan Crowe, Joe Ries, Michael Suerth, Pat Suerth and Ryan Waits. Receiving recognition as honorary pallbearer is Clay Ries.
