Judith B. “Judy” Bishop, 76, of Newton died Monday, March 16, 2009, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church, 1000 E. 12th St. S. in Newton, with Pastors Jim Olson and Brian Keeton officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Newton Union Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Wallace Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cornerstone Bible Fellowship or to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home, or the church the day of service.
The daughter of Carl B. “Hank” and Gretchen E. (Drake) Parsons, was born on August 19, 1932, in Newton. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1951.
On Feb. 29, 1956, Judy was united in marriage to Coy Bishop in Killduff. She retired from Hy-Vee West in Newton after working there 27 years.
Judy was a member of the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church, TOPS IA #689, Eveready Club in Baxter, Baxter Red Hatters and Tuesday Morning Coffee Club at UCC in Baxter. Judy loved being with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed the trips to the lake in Canada with her family. Judy was a consummate volunteer.
Survivors include two sons, Danny “Bud” (Sherry) Bishop of Iowa City and Doug (DeAnn) Bishop of Baxter; three daughters, Diane (Mike) Richards, Dana Woody and Darla (Craig) Modlin, all of Newton; nine grandchildren, David, Sara, Christine, Matt, Ryan, Brandon, Bailey, Kaitlin and Nate; three great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hollis D. Parsons of Jefferson City, Mo., and Norman (Mary) Parsons of Hopkinton; four sisters, Doris Perryman of Newton, Crystal “Chris” (Bob) Townsend of Kellogg, B. Joanne Richards of Newton and Bonnie (Don) Bessman of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Coy; step grandson, Thadd R. Hoagland; four brothers, Carl Jr., Dale in infancy, Daryle and Lowell; and two sisters, Darlene Loupee and Cheryl Parsons in infancy.
