Stanley E. Dow, 72, of Newton died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends with a coffee time at the funeral home following the memorial service.
The family requests that memorials be left to Donnie Fortune and his family to assist with medical costs. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Ernest and Ruby (McCumber) Dow, Stanley was born July 9, 1936, in Newton. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1955.
On June 29, 1958, Stanley was united in marriage to Rosa Whetstine in Newton. He worked in maintenance for the Maytag Company for 28 years, retiring in 1993, and he worked at the Maytag Dairy Farm prior to and after working at the Maytag Company.
Stanley was a member of the Newton Gun Club, had participated in and won medals in the Iowa Games and enjoyed hunting, trapshooting, reloading shotgun shells, collecting model trucks and collecting brass. Stanley loved spending time with his grandsons and taking them places. He was a lifelong resident of Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Dow of Newton; two daughters, Kim Spearing and Kay Dow, both of Newton; one son, Mark (Debbie) Dow of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandchildren, Dustin (Amanda) Spearing, Nathan Dow Landis and Isaiah Dow, all of Newton; two great-grandchildren, Keiana and Kaylee Spearing; two sisters, Arless Smith of Newton and Judy (Robert) Van Sickle of Laurel; a brother-in-law, Russell Peterson of Newton; sisters-in-law, Ula Dow of Newton, Kathryn Tiedemann of Lake Jackson, Texas, Jo Ann Orazietti of Monrovia, Calif., and Linda (Gary) Merical of Brooklyn, Iowa; two uncles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Miranda Dow; a brother, Clarence Dow; and a sister, Carolyn Peterson.
