John R. Garrett, a lifelong resident of Marshall and Jasper counties, passed away at Hospice in Newton on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at 1 a.m. at the age of 88.
John was a member of the American Legion for 63 years, the VFW for 35 years and Forty & Eight for 35 years in Newton.
Surviving family include his wife of 53 years, Maxine Garrett of Kellogg; one sister, Ruth Callaway of Ames; one brother, Dean Garrett of St. Cloud, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
John was an electrician for 55 years from Newton to Walt Disney World in Florida.
Services will be at a later time.

A memorial service for John R. Garrett, 88, lifelong resident of Marshall and Jasper counties, will be at Witten Community Church at 11 a.m. on March 7.
Burial will take place at a later date.
