Former Jasper County Man Dies in Des Moines Following Short Illness

John (Dick) Livingston, 61, of Des Moines, son of a prominent Jasper county pioneer couple and a brother of Mrs. G. H. Nollen of this city, succumbed late Tuesday afternoon at the Broadlawns hospital, Des Moines, of a throat infection and heart complication. Although Mr. Livingston had been in failing health for several weeks, his death was unexpected.

Funeral services will be held in Newton at the Morgan Funeral home at 10 o'clock Thursday morning. Dr. Ray M. Davis, pastor of the United Presbyterian church of which Mr. Livingston had been a member, will officiate and interment will be in Newton Union cemetery.

Surviving in addition to his sister, Mrs. Nollen, is a son, Lawrence Livingston, storekeeper, first class, USN, now in the South Pacific theater of war.

The son of M. K. and Elle (Springer) Livingston, the decendent was born Aug 1, 1883, on a farm four miles southeast of Newton in Buena Vista township where he spent his early boyhood. Later the family moved to Newton where he attended the public schools and was married to Ethel Spearing.

Mr. Livingston has resided in Des Moines for the past few years and at the time of his final illness was employed as a clerk at the Martin hotel in that city. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, June 6, 1945.
