Kenneth Benson, Former Kellogg Resident, Killed

KELLOGG - Funeral services for Kenneth Merle Benson, 21, of Montezuma, a former resident of the Kellogg community, were held Tuesday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn.

Rosary was recited at the Steffy Funeral Home in Montezuma Monday evening.

He died recently in an automobile accident.

Survivors are his wife, Diane; his mother, Mrs. Merle Benson, three sisters, Bonnie Sparks of the Phillippines and Jean Ulrey and Barb Wilcox, both of Montezuma; four brothers, Carroll and Don, both of Kellogg; and Steve and Stan, both of Montezuma and his grandfather, Gene Townsend of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1974. The son of Merle and Ardell Townsend Benson, he was born July 21, 1955 in Grinnell, attended Kellogg Elementary School and was graduated from Montezuma Community High School in 1973.

He was married to Diane Van Gorp April 25, 1975.

Mr. Benson was employed by Sutherland Printing in Montezuma. ~ Newton Daily News, March 10, 1977
