Merle H. Winters Services to Be Held Saturday

Funeral services for Merle Henry Winters, 74, of 1803 N. 2nd Ave. E., a resident of Newton since the late 1940-s, will be held at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

Father Frederick Kramer, rector of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call aat the Johnson-Reese Chapel after 10 o'clock Friday morning.

Survivors are his wife, Cleo; a son, Billy; a step-daughter, Mrs. Charles Sweeney of Des Moines; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Winters was a member of the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and the Maytag 25-year club.

Mr. Winters was an employee of the Maytag Co. for 36 years. He had served as an inspector for a number of years until his retirement in 1965.

The son of John and Jennie [Hodgins]* Winters, he was born April 20, 1902 in Garwin and attended Tama schools.

He was married to Cleo Dahlstrom Dec. 22, 1951 in Louisiana, Mo.

He died early Wednesday morning at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. ~ Newton Daily News, March 10, 1977. *name added by submitter.
