Ruth E. Drake

CEDAR RAPIDS - Ruth Ellen Drake, 85, a native of Jasper County and former resident of Newton, died Wednesday, July 4, at the North Brook Manor in Cedar Rapids.

There will be no memorial services. Miss Drake's body was donated to the Univerrsity of Iowa medical school.

Survivors are a sister, Frances Moore, of Newton and several nieces, including Mrs. Harold Connor of Newton and nephews.

Miss Drake was proceded in death by her parents, William and Rose Drake, and two brothers, Frank and John Drake.

She was born in Buena Vista Township Dec 5, 1898 and was a 1916 graduate of Newton Community High School.

She was employed at the Iowa Mercantile (Big Store) in Newton before moving to Davenport, Waterloo and eventually to Cedar Rapids.

A bookkeeper, she retired in 1965.

She had been a resident of the North Brook Manor for less than a year. ~ Newton Daily News, July 9, 1984
