Horstman, Marion ‘Tex’ – 1938-2009

Marion T. “Tex” Horstman, 71, of Newton died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Newton Health Care Center in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or the Animal Rescue League may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Fred and Selena (Duffy) Horstman, Tex was born Jan. 13, 1938, in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Tex was united in marriage with Marjorie Brown on Sept. 13, 1958, in Newton.
A graduate of Newton Senior High School, Tex had worked at WinPower; he and Marge ran the Terrace Lodge, and for the last 11 years, they had managed Midtown Cafe. Tex enjoyed cooking, clock collecting, going to the casinos, loved animals and he was very friendly and loved giving to others.
Survivors include his wife, Marge of Newton; one son, Steven Horstman of Newton; three daughters, Teresa (Ron) Bougher and Carrie (Ty) Turner, all of Des Moines and Julie (Jim) King of Muncie, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Dawn Filson, Rusty Horstman, Fred Horstman, Jimmie King, Lucas Smith, Danielle Smith, Nichole Bougher and Ronnie Bougher; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Leona “Gernatha” Clement of Newton.
Tex was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Neal and Conrad Horstman.
