Sarah E. “Liz” Rechtenbach, 80, of Newton died on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb.12, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Memorials to the Heritage Manor Activity Fund may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Thomas and Hazel (Jones) Toye, she was born on Dec. 1, 1928, in Newton. She was a life-long of Newton. She was united in marriage with Wayne “Bud” Rechtenbach on June 4, 1957, in Omaha, Neb.
She was a member of the She was a member of the UAW Local 997 and enjoyed her grandchildren, crossword puzzles and watching birds.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam (Les) Blackledge of Newton; her son, Jerry (Teresa) Rechtenbach of Taylorsville, Utah; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Randall (Sue) Toye of Angleton, Texas; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud in 1996, and a daughter, Becky in1968.
