Creed, Wilma Kleinendorst - 1915-2009

Wilma Kleinendorst Creed of Newton, the daughter of Neal and Elizabeth VanHemert Kleinendorst, was born June 11, 1915, near Otley. On Nov. 20, 1934, Wilma was united in marriage with DeVerne C. Creed in Pella. Wilma had worked as an accountant for Swift and Company then for the Maytag Company, retiring from the office supply department. Wilma was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was involved with DeVerne as a youth sponsor for many years. She enjoyed embroidering, making samplers for her family, cooking and baking and tending to her rose garden, her tomatoes and rhubarb.
Wilma died on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at her home in Newton. She was 93 years old.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, DeVerne, on Dec. 28, 2005; her brothers, Cornie, John and Lester; and her sisters, Elsie, Josephine, Leona, Lorena Faye and Beverly.
Those left to honor Wilma’s memory include her daughter, Linda Beth (Jim) Tiedje of Lansing, Mich.; her grandchildren, Anne (Skip) Vendola, Garth (Lori) Tiedje and Meredith (Vince) Voisin; her great grandchildren, Kalea Creed Vendola, Finn Vendola, Ainsley Vendola and Sophia Voisin; her brother and sisters, Bernice (Frank) York of Newton, Bob (Dorothy) Kleinendorst of Newton, LaVonne (Gene) Talbott of Olathe, Kan., and Vickie (Max) Calhoon of Aurora, Ill.; her sisters-in-law, Shirley Creed, Darlene DeBolt and Betty Jacobs all of Des Moines; a special niece, Karen Klouda DeVore of Newton; special friends, Vernelle and Larry Wylie of Newton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Friends may greet the family following the service.
Memorials may be designated to the church. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences at www.pencefh.com.
