Doris Harleen Hawk passed away on Friday, February 6, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton. Doris was born and raised on a farm in the Barrett community of Kellogg, Iowa. She was the fourth child born to Elias and Marie (Davis) Madoll on June 8, 1924. She was a life time resident of the Kellogg area, except for five years in Newton, Iowa. Then returned to a farming operation north of Kellogg in 1962. She attended Kellogg Country Schools. Doris married George Hawk of Lovilla, Iowa on August 24, 1941 in Unionville, Missouri. Doris worked at Barett’s Bakery on the West side of the Newton Square and at the Saveway grocery store in the meat department also in Newton. She later worked and retired from Mid-West One Minute also known as Smith and Jones. She enjoyed watching her son and grandchildren race go-carts, going camping at the Knoxville Raceway, watching the family show mules, going to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sports games, watching TV and Soap Box shows, basketball and football games, doing circle word puzzles, and playing cards. Most of all though she enjoyed spending time with her son and daughter-in-law fishing. Those left to honor her memory include her son, Larry (Tee Nonia) Hawk of Kellogg; two grandsons, Stanley (Teresa) Hawk of Rock Creek, Iowa and Danny (Lisa) Hawk of Newton; her three great-grandchildren, Brett Lowry who is serving in the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, VA; Levi Hawk, who is attending ISU in Ames, Iowa and DMACC in Ankeny, Iowa; and Taylor Marie Hawk, who is attending AIB in Des Moines, Iowa; sister-in-law, Eleandor Madoll of Grand Rapids, MN; step-sister, Vivian Hartwig of Pender, NE; her brother-in-law, Glen Hawk of Centerville, IA; and also many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her father, Elias Madoll in 1951; mother, Marie Madoll Pipper in 1989; her sister, Laurette Verwers in 1971; sister, Jaunita Stecher in 1994; her brother, James Elias Madoll in 1986; step-father, Fred Pipper in 1975; and her beloved husband, George, in 1985.
