Funeral services for Mavis P. Geisler of Pella will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the Mingo United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a private burial at Graham Cemetery, rural Mingo.
Mavis Pauline Geisler, 84, the daughter of Floyd Foster and Mildred Emeline (Mack) Hobbs, was born June 18, 1924, in Clare, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Mingo High School and later Normal Training. Mavis was an Honorary Alumnus of Central College in Pella.
On Dec. 31, 1942, Mavis was united in marriage with Harold Edward Geisler in the Mingo United Methodist Church parsonage. She had devoted her life to Harold, helping him on the farm, and to her community. She was a member of the Mingo United Methodist Church, affiliated member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church in Sun City, Ariz., a life member of the United Methodist Women Society, a member of the Boswell Hospital Auxiliary in Sun City and Skiff Medical Center Auxiliary in Newton, was a past volunteer at Skiff and Boswell hospitals and was active in the GCA Club (Graham Cemetery Association). Mavis was a longtime resident of the Mingo area and then the Newton area since 1983. She and Harold had live in Arizona during the winter months, since 1955.
Mavis passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, in the Hospice Comfort House in Pella. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, on March 17, 1999; and several other members of her family.
Those left to honor Mavis’ memory include her aunt, Lillian Groves Leatherby of Guthrie Center, Iowa; her cousins, including Alan and June Geisler of Sun City, Ariz.; and her many good neighbors and friends, including Maurine and Gary Timmer of Pella, Jean and Kenneth Schnell of Newton and Sheri and John Roslien of Pella.
