Kenneth Wellington Twombley, 88, of Newton died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at the Baxter Health Care Center in Baxter.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Kenneth’s family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Those left to honor Kenneth's memory include his wife Wilma of Newton; three sons: Gary (Wanda) Twombley of Newton, James (Peggy) Twombley of Melbourne, and Glen (Nancy) Twombley of Spencer; his six grandchildren: Troy Twombley, Matthew Twombley, Jamie Twombley, Keith Twombley, Jessica Aboca, and Justin Mitchell; honorary son, Dennis Tague of Olathe, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenneth Wellington Twombley, son of Wilbur and Florence (Cannon) Twombley, was born December 20, 1920 in Jasper county. He was a lifelong Newton area resident. On December 18, 1943, Kenneth was united in marriage with Wilma Leak at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in the Newton area. Kenneth and Wilma enjoyed camping. He had a good sense of humor. Kenneth was a "tough old bird" but had a gentle spirit. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Kenneth died Thursday, January 29, 2008 at Baxter Health Care Center in Baxter. He was 88. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane; sisters Winona Griffin and Rita Smith; an infant brother; and his step parents, Arlene and Joe Dvorak.
Memorials may be left in Kenneth's name at the funeral home.
