GLADBROOK — Barbara Ann Woebbeking, 76, of Gladbrook entered into eternal life on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice at Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reinbeck with the Rev. Bruce Boyce officiating. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present to greet friends at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reinbeck. A memorial fund has been established.
Barbara Ann Woebbeking was born Nov. 5, 1932, at her home near Hoagland, Ind. She was the daughter of Ludoph and Malinda Scheumann. Barbara attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Decatur, Ind., and graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
On Aug. 27, 1955, she married Vernold Woebbeking. Together they were blessed with four children: Deb, Doug, Duane and Dorcas Dee. They lived near Woodburn, Ind., for 11 years. On Feb. 16, 1966, they moved to Gladbrook to begin a farming career together. Barbara worked along the side of her husband on the family farm until retirement.
Barbara was a faithful and devoted member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reinbeck where she enjoyed sharing her faith with others. She was a member of the Dorcas Society, District LWML, and was a Sunday school teacher and president and secretary of the Thrivent Chapter in Grundy County. She was a member of Gladbrook Women’s Club, Gladbrook Lion’s Club, Women’s Auxiliary and was a 4-H Leader. One of Barbara’s joys in life was supporting her children and grandchildren and having family gatherings.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Vernold Woebbeking; her four children, Deb (Dennis) Kruger of Britt, Doug Woebbeking of Newton, Duane (Laura) Woebbeking of Gladbrook and Dorcas Dee (Allen) Burt of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Dawn (John) Stoakes, Darrin Kruger, Darcy Kruger, Daniel Kruger, Brandon Woebbeking, Taylor Woebbeking, Ryan (Cindy) Woebbeking, Shauna (Ben) Smith, Blake Woebbeking, Dustin Woebbeking, Andrew Burt, Matthew Burt, Michael Burt and Jacob Burt; brothers and sisters, Maurice (Kay) Scheumann of Hoagland, Ind., Kathleen (Paul) Meyer of New Haven, Ind., Karl (Cindy) Scheumann of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Ruth (Chuck) Waters of Milford, N.H., Dennis (Rosie) Scheumann of New Haven, Ind.; Tom (Mary) Scheumann of Decatur, Ind.; Lynnda (Dave) Wilson of Monroeville, Ind.; and Aunt Vera Melcher of New Haven, Ind.
Preceding her in death are her parents; brother, Ronald; and sisters, Phyllis Ruhl and Rita Tombaugh.
