Carolyn A. Peterson, 70 , of Newton died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating.
The family will greet friends with a coffee time immediately following the memorial servce. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carolyn’s name or to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
Born on Aug. 16, 1938, in Newton, she was the daughter of Ernest and Ruby (McCumber) Dow. She was a lifelong resident of Newton, graduating from Newton Senior High School, class of 1957. On Sept. 3, 1960, Carolyn was united in marriage to Russell Peterson in Newton.
She had worked at the Newton Motor Inn and was a member of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include her husband, Russell of Newton; two sons, Duane (Amy) Peterson and Curt (Michelle) Peterson, all of Newton; one daughter, Ranee Dowdy of Newton; five grandchildren, Michael Peterson, Matthew Peterson, Ryan Peterson, Ben Peterson and Alec Dowdy; two sisters, Arless Smith of Newton and Judy (Robert) Van Sickle of Laurel; one brother, Stan (Rosa) Dow of Newton; and her sister-in-law, Ula Dow of Newton.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clarence Dow.
